Our Story

Our family plays lots of games … on consoles, phones, hand-helds, and of course board games.

We love strategy and competition. It is always thrilling to see your kids dream up new strategies and master the optimal path. Friendly competition is good and we all come together around the table. Board games are a good way to reduce a bit of the screen time and pull everyone together. Dinners with friends often end up with the adults playing a board game even after the kids have gone to bed.

Frolic was born out of a desire to build a product with and for my kids that would have all of the elements they love but would be something new and unique. We talked about the ideas for our initial game together and they helped where they could. Over the next few years, I suspect everyone in the family will be even more involved in design, play testing, and helping customers.

I’ve already learned a lot about available materials and the manufacturing and printing process. While I suspect that this part of the business will get easier, but the first of anything is always challenging. I’ve been helped by several artists, designers and experts. I certainly couldn’t have launched this project on my own. With their assistance and my family’s support, I’ve somehow managed to iterate to a first set of game releases.

As I see retirement on the horizon, I also wanted to build a business that would generate long-term income and be something I could eventually pass on to my wife and kids. Our plan is to release a few games a year and over the next ten years, to build a library of relevant, fun, topical games that appeal to a wide, modern audience but focus on entertaining families.

This means that our games needs to appeal to the adults just as much as the kids, be relatively easy to learn, elegantly designed, but deep enough to play over and over. Expect us to try some new things, make them with exceptionally high-quality components and packaging, and learn quickly from our mistakes.
